ABOUT THE EVENT

Defqon.1 Weekend Festival is an annual music festival held in the Netherlands, Australia, and Chile. It was founded in 2003 by festival organizer Q-dance. The festival plays mostly hardstyle and related genres such as hardcore techno, hard house and hard trance over 6 stages. The event is located at the International Regatta Centre, Penrith NSW and attracted 30,000 festival goers in 2017

OBJECTIVES

Elite Image Events were commissioned to facilitate production coordination, event logistics, warehouse management & volunteer coordination for the festival.

Our engagement started 12 weeks out from the build and with time against us we swiftly moved a team to Sydney to work in the Q-dance head office to produce the event.  Undertaking many roles for this show, we activated our specialized team to deal with the different departments.  

Expecting up to 30,000 festival goers over 6 stages and a large amount of logistics, we rolled out our very own event management software to help us coordinate the event.  This is one of the first times using it on such a large scale and it really helped us manage and refine all the detail in relation to logistics and requirements.

Working with our Dutch counterparts was fantastic as they bring their different approaches to problems and we create better solutions for the show logistics.

OUTCOME

After months of preparation and a 3 week build on ‘The Island’ we opened our doors to the festival goes. The day’s preceding went off as scheduled with a few show moments executed by our team throughout the show.  

The end show spectacle, a 15 minute time coded sequence incorporating lighting, SFX, Pyrotechnics was the highlight moment to which all the patrons gathered at the red to watch it!

The client and Dutch counterparts was thrilled with our team and our custom software tool used to organize and execute the event.

Planning has already begun for the 10th year Jubilee festival!
